About Safeguarding

South Yorkshire Sport is committed to promoting the safety and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults engaged in sporting activities locally.

Through the South Yorkshire Sport Safeguarding Forum, we aim to support those working in sport by giving them knowledge, guidance and raising awareness of what they need to do to protect these vulnerable groups and minimise avoidable risks.

Working with partners, we will educate and support coaches, clubs, parents, young people and volunteers to ensure that they get the very best from their involvement in sport across South Yorkshire.

South YorkshireSport - Safeguarding Policy and Procedures

It is important that all sports organisations that receive statutory funding must have an active Safeguarding or Child Protection Policy. The South Yorkshire Sport Safeguarding Policy is available to download by clicking on the link below. To request a printed copy of the policy please contact the office on 0114 223 5674 or email amanda.hutt@sysport.co.uk

You may download a copy of South Yorkshire Sport's safeguarding policy and strategic statement from the downloads box on the left of this page.

This Safe in Sport section provides a bank of resources to assist clubs and organisations in delivering safe activities and information specific to coaches, parents, clubs and children.

Federation of Disability Sports Organisation (FDSO)

To view the Safeguarding Policy for the FDSO with particular reference to vulnerable groups including disabled children, download the FDSO policy word document found in the downloads box.

Whistleblowing Policy

The corporate whistleblowing policy provides procedures for staff and volunteers to raise concerns confidentially, if necessary, about unacceptable behaviour by other staff or volunteers. The whistleblowing policy from Barnsley MBC is available to download from the downloads box.

If you have any queries about safeguarding and child protection, you can contact the South Yorkshire Sport Designated Officer Simon Pugh on 0114 223 5677 or email simon.pugh@sysport.co.uk
