Guidance for Parents and Carers

When choosing the right sporting activity for young people to attend, it is important that parents and carers have a general awareness of good practice. This will give peace of mind that the young people can enjoy sport within a safe environment. Providing the young people with positive sporting experiences will ensure that they are more likely to achieve their full potential.

Safeguarding Children at Junior Sporting Events at Licensed Premises:

As you know, junior sports events such as presentation nights, fund-raisers and tournaments can be a fun, family experience with sport at the centre; but sometimes, particularly when alcohol is around, events don’t run as smoothly or as safely as they should - putting children - and the reputation of your club -at risk.

To help clubs run events where children learn to socialise, enjoy themselves and celebrate sport within a safe environment, the Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board in consultation with Sheffield & Hallam District Football Association, the licensed trade has produced some guidance. The leaflet includes a checklist to help you manage the risks associated with alcohol at your events.
